I've got a question for the LEOs/legal types: I've been occasionally working with my 13 year old on driving, taking back country roads to our house from a friend's. I was told by that friend today that if we get caught the punishment can be pretty severe. So with that, just what are the ramifications of being caught teaching a kid to drive on public roads?

Driving without a license, if the judge wants to be a harda$$, he will issue the person a license and then suspend it. Since it's a minor, it would be suspended until he's 18 typically.

This^^^......plus, he's not insured, so if something did happen, collision with another vehicle, run off the road and destroy private property......it's not worth it.

As long as they are a permissive driver, the insurance would cover a loss. Then your company would likely drop you immediately.

Thought you had to be a licensed driver to be a permissive driver?? Otherwise, I could tell my six year old to drive to town and not worry about it, he's covered?

When I was a kid, you could get a license to drive from the field to the elevator in a 2 ton wheat truck at 12 years old.

I had to sit on a Sears Catalog to see out the windshield. I could only drive from the field to the elevator.

That was the rules.

Its been changed now.

I don't know what the current regs are.
