What do you mean by "real" America?

Look at things like the cancer rates, the income, the loss of morals, the narcissism, the loss of sovereignty, the illegal immigration, political correctness, the births out of wedlock, etc...were you alive back then? Being an American just seemed to mean more in say 1984 than it does today...

Those who were alive in the 40's and lived through world war II, both on the battlefield and at home would say the same thing about our nation in the 80's - especially after the whole Vietnam mess.

Those who were alive in the late 1800's and saw the railroad make it's way west said the same thing - that our nation will "never be the same"

That feeling that you speak of is nothing new. Heck, peace-living acid-dropping hippies of the 60's and 70's probably said the same thing as 1984 rolled around.

That change is inevitable and the "realness" of our country is not subject to gradation. if you don't like the U.S. there are lots of places you could go live. I understand the Ukraine is currently in need of military aged males right at the moment.

I agree with this. I am old enough to recall "the good ol days". Yes change in inevitable but it needs not be all change for the worse.

That is a clever but predictable position to take and then it is capped off with the "love it or leave it" sentiment LOL...the irony of you invoking that is that you have ignored the fact that it has gotten worse every generation so it is worse now than ever...I totally agree with you that historically all those generations would say the same thing...but you are discounting the effect that cultural marxism and/or progressivism has had on this great nation...you should watch some youtube vids on cultural marxism and perhaps you will better understand that this has been by-design. You are still attempting to be patriotic by telling a fellow patriot to "love it or leave it"...it is a clever but shallow rebuttal of my point.

As for Ukraine, the neo-cons and the neo-libs are almost orgasmic at the prospect of a new cold war...Do you want to get vaporized over Ukraine? I don't. The State Dept and George Soros funded the over-throw of the corrupt but sovereign gov't of Ukraine because they did not want to join the marxist European Union and Russia offered a better deal. How would we like it if Russia funded a coup in Canada? We are in 18 Trillion of debt and can't afford anymore macho, chest beating, garbage wars unless in direct defense of the nation. I'd not join Ukraine to help leftists and neo-nazi groups...would you?

America is less "real" than it ever has been in history IMO.

This guy is awake ^

So, going to try and and get back on track...I thought the movie was good but not great. My wife and myself are former Marines who served 4 honorable years active duty in the 90s. We were a little annoyed by some of the directing Clint Eastwood did, such as making the boots on the ground look like idiots that couldn't wipe their own ass when Kyle supposedly comes off his perch "to show them a thing or 2" about going house to house. I also felt the close-ups of Cooper shooting the rifle was super cheesy. The recoil in the movie was too exaggerated. I've never seen anyone shooting a rifle and have it jump quite like that.

That wasnt Clints directing, that came directly from Kyle himself. Read the book.

And that's Aces argument. His book has some exaggerations in it.

Movies and books, no matter how good the acting, directing or how well written or described can ever replace what is actually seen during combat.

It's like second hand information.

Oh and don't think for a second that Kyle actually sat down on a computer and wrote that book. Most likely it was written by someone else using notes from interveiws.
