how would you feel if a loved one was killed by a person/gun if 7 hours of training could of prevented that tradegy?

A 7 hour course isnt going to fix stupid. The class I took 10 years ago was a joke and Im sure its no different now. I belive that responsible gun owners should seek out as much training as they can. If the state wants to mandate firearm training fine but start in grade school.

+1 this. Part of civics/government classes.

I say go with the Constitutional Carry but keep the option to acquire a permit open for use in traveling to states that honor our permit but do not have CC.

And +1 this, add "no fee".

Funny that so far the one "no" is from the guy that teaches a CC class.

It makes me happy to see. I emailed the Senator again, giving him a link to this page. I hope he follows up on it. He sounded confident that Oklahomans were happy with the way things are.

I encourage everyone on here to vote in this poll. It is a voice that we have. Not a big voice, but a voice. Hopefully, the guys hanging out in the classifieds will bother to look here too ;)

More concerned with what "groups" think (presumably politically connected groups who give donations) than with individual rights. Classic politician.

As for the argument that untrained people will create mayhem if training isn't required by the gov't, how do you explain the conspicuous lack of such mayhem in Constitutional Carry states? Are the people who live in those places just made of finer clay than the rest of us, or what?

Seems to me the ability to get a license for something makes it seem special, and a bunch of people who would otherwise not even think twice about carrying a gun line up for classes because they hear about the ability to get a license and hear about family/friends doing it, etc., and decide they want to be cool too.

Extremely good point, sir.

I'm all for Constitutional carry.
I also agree with some that education needs to start in the schools. Kids are so scared of guns now with the social facism in the school system that expels them for a piece of bread that looks like a gun. That needs to stop.

Education also needs to start in the home. By the time my kids were 6 years old, they knew how to load a rimfire rifle and pistol, and handle it safely. Neither one owns a gun at this time, but they send me emails about stupid gun owners and make fun of them because they don't know how to handle their firearms.

I agree that required education constitutes restrictions, and also agree that voluntary education might help some.
When the local Fire Department and the Hospital offered classes on infant CPR, as well as adult CPR, the classes were packed with adults and kids.

People want to be educated for the most part.

When it comes down to it, it wouldn't change my mind even if unlicensed/untrained gun owners caused a little mayhem from time to time... it would be better than having the very entity that we most need to protect ourselves from being able to regulate and place conditions on our ability to protect ourselves and our liberties. Gun control is the fox guarding the henhouse.

An SDA instructor saying "No" to Constitutional Carry on the basis of the "training" making some kind of difference with regard to competency, may as well be honest and just come out and say, "I'm not willing to give up earning income on the infringed rights of my fellow Citizens."
