Proof that people who don’t know what they are talking about shouldn’t make comments. Lots of us do get jobs. Lots of spend summers at seminars trying to become at what we do, lots of us need some time off after dealing with people like you and your kids. Those who have no respect for us or anyone else raise kids that mimic their attitudes.

I’m sure your just playing devils advocate, trying to stir pot. We call that being a troll. You obviously have no concept of what is involved with the job.

I honestly thought he was making a joke, did I read that wrong?

-First of all it’s 187 Days.
No District is having Extra Days for the fun of it.
Old Law Required 180 Days @ 6 hours a day = 1,080 Hours of School.
New Law Only Requires 1,080 Hours in a school year

-Second. It’s spread out over 10.5 months Depends on the District
-Third. If you knew a teacher you would understand that we spend a large portion of our weekends, and after school time Planning for our classes and lessons. Very Poor Work Ethics & Planning
-fourth. If you knew a teacher you would also understand that we spend a large portion of own income buying supplies out our own pockets so we can educate our students. Districts don’t have the money, and won’t reimburse us. Title 1 schools get all of the free supplies they can use. And non Title 1 parents furnish supplies
-fifth. If you knew a teacher you also know that districts don’t have money to supply paper after a point so we have to go out and buy reams of it to make copies with. Use the Textbook (Instead of Worksheets)
Sixth- We are forced to give up planning hours to watch classes because districts can’t afford subs.
You failed to inform the readers that you get paid extra for covering a class
Last- I haven’t even mentioned the time away from Home sponsoring classes, dances, fund raisers, community projects that we give up. That is your choice and is not required

It’s not an easy job. It’s a very rewarding job. But, it takes a lot out you.
Not trying to start anything. Just FYI.

Teaching is a Great Part Time Job (And I know hundreds of Teachers)
But Rural - Urban - Ttile 1 & High Income School are Very Different

The State of Oklahoma has 1 teacher per 17 students
Core Teachers (Math English Science Social Studies) in urban districts have a lot more because of the special education classes with 10 or less students

Yes....you aren't fluent in sarcasm.:comfort:

I am 100% on board with paying teachers what they are worth. 5k wouldn't even be a cost of living adjustment for the past 10 years. 10k would cover the increase and change.

And I have a pretty good understanding of the job. I see lots of my friends teach all day, coach for 3 hours after school then work part time jobs on the weekend and over summer.

Proof you "know" hundreds of teachers?

You have my apologies sir. It seems like teachers are getting attacked pretty heavily lately. I guess I-misunderstood your statements.

Many apologies

Oklahoma has some real big problems with accounting and balancing budgets. I think RATS GOT IN THE PANTRY and packed off a lot of the cereal!

For years they have been trying to track down about $13 Million that went to into the State Health Dept. Budget; now they believe that the State Police Retirement Fund was embezzled, and what’s next? The arbitrary choice to effectively shake down teachers over the years while repeatedly giving other State Employees raises, is inexcusable. The firing of hundreds of Nurses and staff from the Health Dept. to try to offset normal expenses that can’t be paid because of mishandled of funds is deplorable as well.
