What they don't poop on, they destroy. Don't leave the window down on a $100K wheat truck. It will be totaled in one night. Not mine, but a friends.
They destroy the nest of any bird on the ground. Game birds and birds like shore birds, Killdeer that build nests in our gravel road, Wading birds like cranes, rails, Geese, ducks.
Song birds like meadowlarks, woodthrush and warblers, and the list goes on forever.
The trapping industry that took them out for years is dead now so nobody traps except to protect the ground nesters in their local area.
You can trap every coon from your area, but within months the entire population will recover because they move where the food is. Trapping them now is a year around job with no return on furs.
It's currently a labor of love for our birds.

Well we raise lots of ducks, chickens, and quail. Raccoons are the arch enemy of a poultry farmer. They are the most persistent, destructive, and cruel predator. They will wreak havoc on your birds. I often trap them, and they get a .22 twix the eyes. Don’t feel bad, there’s plenty of them.
