Okay I am in Osage County and have a letter telling me the tax folks are going to issue a warrant for not paying personal property taxes, from 2010. Now first thing is, I am sure they have been paid, so this is a real thorn in my side. Yet when I asked to have the tax bill checked to see if it is correct I got the reply that it is, pay up or we will issue a sheriff's warrant.

Does anyone have an idea where I can find information on this? I have been googling since Friday. I would like to see if I have a way to challenge the tax bill. We have been trying to find anything that shows 2010 was paid but since we have a massive amount of papers to dig through it is a mess. Plus many of them got wet a couple of years ago when a storm pulled part of my roof off. Oh yeah they still charged me taxes on the roof that was in the yard.

The county says I owe $210 (for the 2010 year) and then $214 in penalties, I do not have that kind of money and tax time for this year is coming up soon. Any help, just pointing me in a direction would be greatly appreciated.

I am thinking that after 25 years of paying personal property taxes I have paid more in taxes than the items cost me new, but if I dont pay the taxes/rent/extortion they will take what few things I have left and sell them to pay this bill.

Now tomorrow when my nurse comes to check on me and my blood pressure is high a lot of it is due to things like this. She will also ask about stress, yep plenty of it to go around. :)

Thanks for any help, David.

Call the Sheriff's office in the morning

That is on my list of things to do. I would be quite upset if a warrant was issued, my stuff taken and sold, and then I find the stupid receipt for payment. At that point I would want my stuff back, not an "oh sorry".

you might even qualify for some sort of tax exemption, but of course i'm just pulling this stuff off the internet and am no expert by any means.

Just making sure. a lot of shady people try to take advantage of older folks.

How do you pay for your taxes? credit card? Money order?

It would be easier to show you paid it that way.

It should have been paid by check. The thing is our bank changed hands and finding a check from 7 years ago is very difficult and time consuming, thus we are looking for papers here. If the bank has to find the old check it may take a few weeks.
