Because no OSA thread is complete without at least ONE troll comment, I decided to add this, which is ok because I actually contributed to the thread as well.

I would be hesitant to buy a plug-in EV at this time. I live in an apartment complex so I have no place to plug it in at this time. There are charging stations diagonally across the intersection from where I live--four stations in the parking lot of a former pharmacy. The thing is, I wouldn't want to leave a new, expensive car in a public parking lot where I have no way of seeing the lot where its parked.

That being said, I'd be interested in a hybrid car, once the get affordable for me. I've been interested in them since 1980, when Mother Earth News first offered their DIY hybrid car plans. They showed it in a Opel GT but I would have put it into a Fiat 850 Spider or, a Pontiac Fiero.

I have heard a rapid home charger is $6500-10,000 depending on electrical connection. The people I know who have a tesla use a low amp 220 v plug and cord, 24 hour charge. Nothing fancy, pretty simple install.

That much for a home charger? Wow! They should include one with the car.

I was curious seeing that a rapid charger was some $10k in the comments, did a little googling since I generally don't believe anything I read online. While I don't doubt early home charging was expensive, you can be into a Level 2 rapid charger between $400-$800 depending on your available garage power. These will recharge your empty batteries in 6- 8 hours without any capacity degradation.

Tesla says using a supercharger infrequently won't affect battery capacity, but using it too often will... but it's a technology not available to 99% of homes in the US since 3-phase is so rare in residential areas.

What comes with an ev vehicle is a level 1 trickle type charger that can fill capacity back overnight if it fits your use... people who commute with an ev, 30-40 miles per day.

I know when the company that installed the ones here, it was said that once the car got to the 100% mark on the charge then a parking fee would start til you unpluged the car, i have had no dealing with it so dont know what the cost is, and dont ever plan on finding out since im not planning on ever buying such a car.

Here, but occasionally There.
Back a few years ago, we were Camp Hosts at a small RV park in Utah. The park was listed as a charging station in Tesla's book of charging places. Visiting with one of the Tesla owners, he informed me that he had three different adapters for charging. One would hook into an RV site 50-amp socket and charge the battery in a couple of hours. Another would hook into an RV site 30-amp socket and charge the battery in about 8 hours. The last was one that would hook into a 20-amp "normal" electrical socket and would charge up the battery overnight.

We saw a few folks come through with their phone app in hand asking us to allow them to charge for a specified time (I remember once it was like 20 minutes), which would be just long enough for them to make it to the next charging station. I always wondered just how accurate those apps would be, especially so with regards to the vehicles going up mountain grades.

This!
Beginning of 2019 my wife wanted a Model X so we drove to Dallas and took a test drive. It was like a roller coaster taking off...instant torque. We decided to do some research. We pick up and go with no notice several times a year. Add the fact that I drive either full throttle or full brake. What we discovered is a drive to Branson for example would require us to stop and charge before our trip was complete which didn't even take into consideration my driving style. Needless to say 3 of the vehicles that get driven frequently in my driveway get 15mpg or less.

The EV will become more and more visible and viable just as the internal combustion vehicles slowly replaced the horse & buggy. I’m sure the early converts to cars had the same questions we have today...where do we get fuel?, can we venture far from home?, and so on.
When I was in college, I remember reading about a study done by government concerning usage of the then new
"horseless carriages". The study concluded that automobiles were a fad. The White House, it was decided, would get to keep its horse stables for a few more years. FWIW, in 1908 or so, the sheriff in OKC still got around by horse and buggy, deciding that automobiles were too unreliable. The naysayers always say, "nay", but it is clear that the writing is on the wall for ICE. Like it or not, EV's are the future.

Progress moves on. My wife remembers her father saying that TVs were just a fad. Everything we enjoy today was a new-fanged idea at some point.

But, it seems that there are always those folks that swear, “Not me”. Maybe even some that said, “Plastic guns, that will never work”.
