They do make low profile adapters, I'd forgotten about those.

At no point in my life prior to today did I ever imagine that I would want a 1 1/16 shallow 12 point 3/8 drive socket, but to be honest I kind of want one now just because I can't seem to find it either (and also so I could call @mouthpiece up and brag)

The low-profile adapter is cool, but may be difficult to get off the socket. But do what you have to do....

If access/clearance is your issue, you could also take your socket to the machine shop and cut it shorter.
