Pretty sure he broke the sound barrier, which was estimated to be around 700mph and to happen within the first 40 seconds of free fall
They've gotta go over the data to verify it. He did do 729mph according to their telemetry they were showing, which depending on the air pressure and temperature could have been just over Mach 1 (i.e. in typical conditions at 70,000 feet would be 662mph using ISA - Red Bull Stratos was estimating 690mph during mission conditions and with real data). But that stuff has to be verified before they can be sure. Just because the telemetry says 729mph doesn't mean he's traveling 729mph, especially if it wasn't correcting on the fly for air pressure and temperature.
That was fun to watch, been watching it all day, press conference too. The only record he didn't break was the freefall time.

That was incredible to watch. It looked pretty rough about 20 seconds in when he was tumbling (at least it looked that way from the footage). I can't imagine the feeling of going that fast in open air, I've been approx. 170 on a bike, but over 700mph holy freakin crap
