10mm is basically .40 and 45 is well......45
Would have to go to a 460 rowland to best 10mm in power. Have to admit, a 10mm would be a nice addition to the 1911s I own.
the .40 S&W is a result of the FBI's trials of the 10mm in the S&W 1076. They realized it was too powerful for police work, so someone shortened the case and reduced the power level and you get .40 S&W
