Obama's buddy Van Jones could probably get more votes then we think. Hell after seeing the American voter at it's best last night Van Jones may just win. Look at Jesse Jackson Jr. He won with over 65 percent of the vote and no one has seen his a$$ in 5 months.

given this thread and a section of the one on welfare myths, i think it proves why the GOP has a hard time answering critics who ask 'why do republicans only care about a child until he or she is born?'

It seems like many want some mothers to keep a child, yet don't understand when she requires government assistance to support and feed the child. The child shouldn't be used to punish the mother for having sex. Yeah, it's not a simple issue, but one that seems to require common sense on both sides.

Unfortunately for those that agree with you, it's a settled matter in law. The correct format to address this issue is through church and civic organizations, and local community societal norms. It's not an issue of good governance of the country, which is what legislators and administrators of the federal government should focus on. Every breath spent on this and other social issues is a detraction from that mission.

my hope (predicted in 2008) is that GW effectivley killed the GOP possibly the only good thing he did. From the ashes will come a new party that is not controlled by the extreme fringe elements--that is good for us--now I hope that the Dem' s will implode and another new party will emerge---also well removed from the extreme -- as a note--there is only one way to get out of the trap we are in--increase income(taxes) and reduce spending, across the board--yes even the defense budget--anyone that tells you otherwise is just giving you a "smoke and mirrors" show....if something isnt done imediately in another 10yrs or so the Chinese will just come over here and buy the USA....as a footnote to that--there was a time during the Japanese economic boom that the real estate in Tokyo was worth more than the entire United States of America....more taxes and reduced spending---its that simple---
