I have a friend that shot and killed two guys, that kicked in his RV door, and were coming in on them, including two small grand-kids. This happened 20 years, and he was cleared of any criminal wrong doing, and won all the lawsuits, over many years. He said it cost him $400,000.00 by the time HIS lawyers got through with him, and he WON?

I think the expression is "Jive?" and I spoke plain English my confused friend. For reference, you might want to go read my last sentence of the comment you originally quoted talking about personal responsibility. Basically, in a nutshell, free market is great at solving problems, but again, there's an amount of personal responsibility people need to assume in overall health.

Not sure where you were going with the self defense case cost example?
Only that choices have consequences!

Well, I locked into a sweet $7k/14k individual/family deductible plan for only a scratch over &1400 per month. It's from Friday Health plans, whoever that is. It is HSA qualified so I guess I'll try that this year.

I looked at some of the Medishare type plans but just couldn't do it. They basically say, we aren't insurance, we may pay or we may not and so on. I know a lot of the verbiage is legal cover for liability, but for something as important as health coverage I just couldn't get past all their disclaimers.

Will get the HSA squared away and hopefully not use any insurance again this year.

Been on an HSA plan for some time, it's the way to go if you don't go to the doc much.

I hope everyone finds one of those "sweet plans' with a $4k plus deductible, $10k plus out of pocket max and 20% plus copays for the bargain price of $1200 plus a month in premiums!

Don't worry folks, we are protecting capitalism and freedom with these plans! Plus you'll be "allowed" to save money tax free in the vaunted HSA account! Woot!

Trekrok, would you be better off putting that money into an account then pay cash when/if you have to go to the dr? I know a guy who did that in CO and found a local doctor with a 'flat fee' system if paying cash. Depends on how often you need care.

I'm fortunate and our company still offers some pretty good insurance. Medical, Dental, Vision for me and the wife for 2023 is a little over $500/month. It WAS much better until a few years back. Always had the option for Employee only, Employee and Spouse then Employee and Family. Costs went up for each 'bracket'. They eliminated the Employee and Spouse which is our situation and forced into the higher 'and Family'. Latest is the Employee can NOT enroll their Spouse if said spouse could be covered by her employer regardless of costs. If available, she couldn't be on my insurance. Luckily not the case. Employee Only is $31/month!

I finished enrolling for 2023, my premiums doubled. Yaaaaa me

paying $440 a month, and I am single.

Health, dental and vision.
I was bitten by a brown recliuse spider on the foot, went to the ER, this was on a weekend, after several hours this pup doctor looked at it and said, that is a brown recluse spider bite! He then a call all the other pup doctors down to look at it, I guess none of them had seen one before? Then he said there is no anti-vemin for this, so keep it clean, and if the spot starts rotting out, go to a wound specialist. I had to pay $100.00 co-pay, the bill was $1,700.00, my insurance negotiated it down to $240.00, 12% or 14%, of the bill, and payed it! My long winded point is, If individuates could negotaiate the medical bills down to 12%/14%, WE WOULDN'T NEED MEDICAL INSURANCE!
