It is interesting to see where this has gone. In the mid to late 80s, when Dennis was an adjunct instructor at Gun Site, this was known as the Tueller drill....not the Tueller "rule" The student was required to draw his sidearm and shoot 2 shots center of mass in 1.5 seconds...the time it takes to sprint about 7 yards, and we instructors had to demo this drill for the students. The lead instructor faced down range and had a target at 3 yards the adversary instructor started 90 degrees to the lead and when he started to sprint, the lead instructor would draw his pistol and fire two shots before being tagged by the adversary. It was always close and usually he was tagged at or just before the first shot. Matter of fact that time is the Gun Site School Drill standard time at 7 yards. I am glad to see them rethinking the range on this because it was always close and the instructor EXPECTED the charge. As for it being a rule, well that is a matter for the courts.
