without getting into the debate of whither Pot should be illegal at all...

To add to the outrageous TEN YEAR sentence over 2-3 joints of Pot with NO prior.
not only do we get to pay cost of her incarceration for TEN YEARS.

We the Taxpayer now get to pay to support her four children too.
Note she was not a crack head but a gainfully employed mom.

pretty safe to state....NO where else in the USA could this sentence have been imposed.

Wonder why the state of Oklahoma is broke?
not only does she and her children get the shaft... we the Tax payers get it too. owners of all the private prisons are laughing all the way to the bank.

one HAS to wonder if there's corruption somewhere in the private prison/HARSH sentencing food chain?

it's been proven in other states of the Kickbacks between crooked Judges and private prisons.

the DA and Judge responsible for this should be FIRED!

She was selling illegal drugs in front of her kids!! 10 years is just right and she should not ever be allowed around her kids again. An illegal drug is an illegal drug no matter how it's cut and she was exposing minors to it

Please explain in a coherent, logical, and reasonable manner.

Or I guess the lack of coherency, logic, and reason is consistent.

Every parent with beer in their refrigerator, or wine in the house should never be allowed to see their kids again.

If this story was about a stupid gun control law and not a stupid drug law, there would be a lot less comments about "she knew the risks" and a lot more comments about it being a stupid law. It all comes back to social norms. It's a lot easier to marginalize someone when they are different than you.

Note: The reason they got the harsh sentances, was commission of crime infront of chilldren(and in some ways invloveing them in selling drugs). What would we all say if they had been jacked of money in a armed crime by a less than nice customer.

Thus not just a corner dealer with a dime bag, but ladies bringing customers into their home with their children there. Thus the choice of doing crime has reprocussions. If there is a law against it, its illegal, no matter what we feel about the actual infraction.

First, YES I do think that anything beyond a fine and a few days on a trash detail is excessive for a first time offender with only three joints.

But, let’s leave the “should it be legal or not” argument out of the equation for a second and look at it from another vantage point. It IS illegal and putting yourself, children, job or anything else at risk for something this stupid is not something anyone should take lightly.

I think that not being allowed to have a suppressor on my pistol without excessive paperwork is as silly as telling me I can’t put a muffler on my car or lawnmower because I could sneak up on someone and run over them. BUT it IS illegal, so guess what? Until I get around to forming a trust and sending in my $200 tax stamp offering… No can for me.

I also thought the ten years we could not put pre-ban parts on post-ban firearms was pointless; but not to the tune of doing something that would deprive me of my liberty or my family of their primary source of income.

That is the thing people don’t get. Who the hell cares if it should or should not be illegal? That is a debate completely separate from the fact that if you make the choice to ignore the laws you by that decision accept the risk associated with that choice.
