Zach,

If your truly serious about a TC platform, I would suggest looking into the possibility of a new frame and pin, barrels and furniture, instead of messing with rebuilding an old one for considerably cheaper. These old used guns are very well used and just having to replace just a pin in a frame can be quite the chore.
(tightening the gun back up for consistent accuracy)

You can find the new frames, barrels and furniture here.

Thank you for the info Paul. I think I’m going to go with a new SSK-50 receiver.

in the batch of reloading items I acquired there’s a lot of stuff to load 7 TCU. Does anyone shoot/load this cartridge? What’s your opinion on it? I am considering getting into now since I have everything but the firearm.
I like it. Its easy to form and load. Good brass is cheap (223). The recoil and report are tolerable.
I have been considering having a rifle chambered for it.

Is your 21” carbine a TC?
It is the 21" tapered carbine factory TC barrel. It is the 2nd one i've owned in that configuration, and although pleasant to shoot, neither the current one or the first one shined in the accuracy department....good enough to hunt with , as i am NOT a long range guy, with most shots on critters taken at 100 yards or less, so has been adequate for that use.

I did notice in both cases i had better accuracy with lighter weight bullets when sticking with powders on the fast side of the burn spectrum..i had acceptable accuracy with stuff like Vv-N120, Norma200, Accurate 1680, etc. Always wanted a stainless tapered custom 7TCU that was properly throated for bullets in the 115-120 weight class, instead of the excessive throat length found in most factory pipes.

Some data i stashed away...this one is from an article which was either in Handloader or Rifle Magazine, author built a Rem 700 in 7TCU...and those speeds seemed overly optimistic, my 21" factory barrel was 100+ fps slower when i tried some of those.
