The 7th Fleet probably saved my bacon and that of others. We were pinned down in a bad firefight, when the battleship NJ brought the 20" guns into the fight.
Impressive accuracy considering it wasn't "smart" and they were 10 miles out in the ocean in rough seas.

I got to see the battleships in action during Pacex 89 the largest Naval Exercise since World War II there were 2 carrier battle Groups USS Enterprise, and USS Carl Vinson and two battleship Battle groups USS New Jersey (BB-62) and USS Missouri (BB-63) and us the USS Blue Ridge LCC-19 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_Blue_Ridge_(LCC-19) was right in the middle of them. It was a once in a lifetime sight for me at the tender age of 21.

Taken from Wikipedia
The very large PACEX '89 in the North Pacific involved the USN, Canadian Navy, Japanese Maritime Self-Defence Force, and ROK Navy. At the end of Exercise PACEX '89 a 54 ship formation was assembled for photos. It included the flagship, USS Blue Ridge (LCC-19), the USS Enterprise (CVN-65) Battle Group, the USS Carl Vinson (CVN-70) Battle Group, two battleship surface action groups formed around the USS New Jersey (BB-62) and USS Missouri (BB-63), and a Japanese Maritime Self-Defence Force task force.
