I'm curious.
I think if you changed the barrel on a semi auto pistol, the bullet striations would change. Correct me if I'm wrong.
What if you had a revolver re-crowned?
What if you had say 1/2" cut off a rifle barrel?

I don't know where to start.
Changing the barrel will change the rifling marks.

Recrowning a revolver won't change anything, unless its a before and after.

Cutting 1/2" off the barrel won't change anything unless its a before and after.

I'm sorry, but these questions sound a little creepy.

They sounded a little creepy in my head too. It was the ballistics deal on the cat assassin that started that train of thought. Then my little brain wandered towards the old "it's 9mm fired from a Beretta" line in the tv dramas. "The main suspect has a Beretta reqistered I his name" blah blah blah, you know the drill. The before and afters were exactly what I was thinking about.
Besides, I'm a creepy guy.

Another thought was the Internet rumor or hoax or conspiracy theory or whatever that manufacturers are firing firearms and putting the bullets in a big ole database. Exactly why do they send you a spent cartridge with some firearms anyway?

everything will change them some.

the question is... how much? will it be recognizable as the original?

recrowning does change the point in the barrel which narrows the most. it would change rifling marks some... but just how much, who knows?

Actually, a mass produced rifle barrel is as apt to have a tight spot in the middle, as it is at the muzzle.
