TULSA, Oklahoma - Thieves ravaged a midtown Tulsa storage unit at 22nd and Sheridan. Personal items are scattered throughout the parking lot of Quality Storage after dozens of units were broken into - apparently over several days.

Fences are torn down and cut, and dozens of storage units at Quality Storage have been looted. It appears the thieves dragged items out of the storage units, taking anything valuable and leaving the rest.

Items like photos, books, paperwork and furniture are now left out in the rain.

A Tulsa city councilor had reports of homeless people burglarizing the units. That councilor drove by Thursday morning and saw people going through the items and stopped.

The city councilor said people scattered, and one man was hit by a car while running away.

He's expected to be OK.

The owners of Quality Storage live out of state. The manager said they plan to increase security, but he was upset that police don't patrol the area more closely. He was also upset with lawmakers, saying there is little punishment for property crimes now that some have been reduced to misdemeanors.

The manager said he's been running people out of the business nightly, but he can't keep up with it. The car wash was also damaged, and the manager said their security cameras were damaged or taken.

It appears people have been living in the units as well, tapping into electricity.

The City has given the property owners 10 days to clean up the mess.

If you have a storage unit at Quality Storage, it has likely been broken into.

Sue who??
The property owner They cut the fences and destroyed the property and the police won't do anything to the transients.
Jail is a free bed and free meals. No hard times in jail anymore.
Sue the city for letting transients have the good life.
Last time I was in Tulsa transients came up to my car window tapping on it and would walk beside me begging for money at the gas stations.
Like ants to a pick nick..I thought OKC was bad.. Tulsa got them beat. Those transients there are ballsy.
This was right near the fair grounds.

Lock them up in a room with no electricity except a light bulb way high and no windows.
No contact to the outside world until you get pulled out to clean the highways or trash in the creeks and rivers.
Make it where it isn't relaxing.

Not gonna happen. Fools need to work for money instead of steal and live in or on property that isn't theirs.

Sue the company that owns the place. You pay for secure safe storage. Obviously the manager is not keeping it secure and safe.
Like the article said the stuff had been out for days. The manager obviously never bothered to even call the renters of the units to let them know what was going on. They had to hear about it in the newspaper or on tv.

There is probably a clause in the rental agreement that says they are not responsible for loss or damage. You'd have to check for that, and if there you'd probably have to prove willful negligence, which is possible to do but makes it harder. "Obviously" won't really do it in court, you have to convince a judge or jury, based on the legal standard. Or at least I would think...

Had a friend here in Yukon that kept his Harley in storage Off 66 and Sara road.
He drove past the place and noticed his unit was open.
Harley was gone.
Contacted the police and tried to get the video camera footage of it happening and the storage place would not give it to him and the Yukon police asked if he had full coverage on it and he said he did.
They said then take it up with your insurance company you do not need any video.

WTF!!!
Those Cops do not want to do paperwork or any kind of work except traffic tickets i guess.
That is unacceptable in my book and I bet it is the norm.

Oh, I guarantee it's in the contract. All they have to do is provide for "reasonable care" which the courts will decide.
This may or may not be applicable to Oklahoma. It is good reading.
