I think he’s saying it’s the distinctive style of the wood furniture, not the fact that it’s wood.

If one blows up the pic, you can see what is pointed out as well as the wood style behind it in the pic of the movie.
Appears to be a Garand to me anyway.

The way the shooting sequences were filmed/edited, it seemed to be an M-1 Garand rifle that required manual cycling of the op rod/charging handle/bolt for each shot fired. I was determined not to let that detract from my enjoyment of the action/storyline of the movie,,,but, the thought crawled across my mind like a subtitle, “that’s not how a Garand works.?”

Agreed, then it would fire semi auto next time he fired it.
