I recently read a book on AR's that my dad had and it pointed out that a lot of them are stamped 5.56 but if properly gauged are only chambered for .223. So...I ordered the gauge and sure enough, mine is stamped 5.56 but really isn't chambered properly. I looked into buying a reamer to make it correct but they are $250. Has anyone had a similar situation and is there a local OKC area gunsmith or individual for that matter that has a reamer to fix it?

all you need is a throating reamer and they don't cost anywhere near $250
Just exactly how much "real" 5.56 do you expect to shoot?
alot of what is advertised as 5.56 is really loaded at 223 specs.

That $250 was the only one I could find. Any place you know of to get one cheaper? Also, I have 2 cans of military surplus so 1640 rds of 5.56 that's truly is 5.56.

Brownells has .224 throat reamers in stock for about $40
their out of stock on 5.56 finish reamers but they normally run about $125
thats awful expensive for about 30 seconds of use to lengthen the throat a few thousandths of an inch.
if you don't know what your doing, you can easily create excessive headspace and thats even worse.

The reamer I found actually won't let you take too much out. It bottoms out when the shoulder of the tool hits the shoulder of the chamber. Does anybody know of anyone locally that has a tool that I could pay to do it? I really don't want to pay $250 for the tool. I also don't really want to call the manufacturer because they are out of all parts right now anyway so they wouldn't have another barrel to send me. I also won't take any chances of running the mil spec 5.56 through it without reaming it first. Thanks for all the input!
