Because conscription is legal right?
Nor is conscription necessary for national defense.
Nor do we want to hand all of our nation's youth over to the State at once. Bad idea. Very bad idea.
If the state of my generation is so bad, it is the parent's fault, and not the role of the government via the military to correct that.

The last I heard, the TSA union just wants armed officers of any kind at the checkpoints. Apparently some airports have pulled the police presence at checkpoints.

...that was one of the options. Another option they presented (I'm sure they submitted a list of possible options), was to create another category of TSA agents who would be armed and categorized as law enforcement.

As I've always said, give the security back to the local airport authority and put a city cop at the gate if you want someone with arrest authority around.
