Ceiling popcorn. House was built in '75. No, we did not know of it before. I would leave it, but minor leaks in parts of the house have caused a few places to begin coming down.

They are required by law to disclose that information, you might check into that, because they might be responsible for the clean up if they intentionally didn't tell you.

i would put it in black plastic bags and put it in the dumpster or roll off...but thats just me...

That's what I would do too...

It was a foreclosure, we bought it from a bank. I don't know how that would affect anything.

Still looking into removing it myself, just doing some homework first.

Personally, when I read every other page saying "get a pro get a pro get a pro get a pro get a pro get a pro..." it screams "racket!!!" loud and clear to me. Especially when one range of costs I found (which doesn't seem too out of line with all the ones I saw) was $15-$25 / sf, or in this case, something like $45k, almost half the value of the house, that's BULL SH!T. Period. Especially when there's a better chance of me dying by electrocution rewiring my house, but yet I can find any number of guides on the simple standards for electrical wiring that don't yell "get a pro!".

The last straw, is if it's SOOOO bad... why did they continue to allow existing stock to be installed after it was banned? More BS.

Just my :twocents:

It's bad, but not as bad as some people try to make it out. It's just one of many things that you shouldn't stir up and inhale.

It's everywhere. It's fine until you stir it up and breathe it. Don't do the first if you can avoid it, and never do the second.

I had a family member that used to be in the business, and it was a little bit of a racket. And some of the pros are pretty rinky dink anyways, or they used to be.

Agree that the cost is crazy. Heck even to have something tested cost about $150.00 per sample.

From everything I have read so far, as long as you keep it wet, out of the carpet and vents, and you don't smoke, you should be fine. As for me, just seen too many old salts die of lung cancer in the Navy to want to mess with the stuff my self.

made full circle back in the kiamichi mountains in
when removing the popcorn spray the ceiling, mist it with water.we used a pump up sprayer wet a small area let set for a little bit then scraped it off.it's easier to clean when wet. Besure and use a good respirator don't soak it just lightly dampen makes thing work better.also cover anything you don't want it on.

That's just the thing, is I'm not going to be working on a long term basis around it. Some things I read said it's not all it's hyped up to be, unless you sand/grind it and don't clean it at all. IE, most of the problems were found in people who worked around it without ventilation.
