when removing the popcorn spray the ceiling, mist it with water.we used a pump up sprayer wet a small area let set for a little bit then scraped it off.it's easier to clean when wet. Besure and use a good respirator don't soak it just lightly dampen makes thing work better.also cover anything you don't want it on.

House is empty now, we're doing this before removing the old carpet, then clean the floors, then install new carpet. We're also painting pretty much the entire house too.

My personal opinion Nikat, the bank should have told you about it to begin with, and I really don't think that because they are a bank, they should get a free ride. If they didn't know, okay, maybe I can look beyond it, but I really question if they did.

Having said that, part of the whole reason for disclosure is not only health and safety, but to protect the consumer from finding themselves in a money pit.

Leaving it is fine, but with the way the .gov is going, you will have to deal with it at some point in the future, whether it's when you move out, rent out, or even have work done on the home. There are all kinds of hoops for remodeler's to jump through on a confirmed asbestos positive house that are COMPLETELY retarded.

I would not remove it by myself but if you do. Keep it wet, use a self contained AC unit with a HEPA filter, wear a tyvex suit, you need to seal the room so it does not contaiminate other areas.
You will have to go to the Doctor get fitted for the proper mask. Do not use one that is not rated for Asbestos.

Maybe you could put a new ceiling in lower than the existing one.

I'd agree. But since they have more money for lobbyists than Working Joe, they get the free ride and I get the sandpaper end of the stick... BOHICA.

My personal opinion on banks as an entity is about two clicks above bird sh!t on a freshly waxed car.

Dispose in construction land fill. The best thing you can do is take a asbostos abatement coarse. 40 hr. I will PM my cell phone# call me tomorrow and I will find out where you can take the coarse or get training. I have had some training although it is a serious health hazard its not as bad if you have some traing in abatement. The USA is the only nation that does not have age restrictions on abatement. Other countries you have to be at least 40 yrs. old to abate. More importantly if not properly removed your loved ones will be at risk of asbestosis and mezithieloma in thier later years.

I never caught what exactly you think has asbestos in it, is it insulation or are we talkin' about that old cement siding stuff? The siding can be removed, but it is very labor intensive and highly regulated. As far as actual health hazards, as long as you keep it wet while handling it and don't try to break or cut it its supposed to be doable, BUT, try to even touch it without breaking it! the dust that comes off of it contains the asbestos fibers and only becomes airborn when the panels are broken.
The folks at the EPA INSIST that when you removed it, you have to first enclose the entire area in plastic, then rig a water bath that keeps the surface Constantly saturated, and last but not least, all this has to be done in a high level Hazmat suit including boots gloves and a respirator.
As far as bagging it it up and putting it in the dumpster is concerned, They (the GOV) prefers that you stack it in 20 pound bundles, bag it, then wrap it in heavy plastic, duct tape it, mark it as to where it came from and what date it was removed, then stack it in a cool dry place (indoors) on your property until THEY tell you its safe to take to the special govt disposal facility.
ALTHOUGH, You might wanna take a sample to the county agent and have it tested because guess what? NOT ALL of that siding actually contains asbestos, same is true for the "cellulose" stuff they used to blow in the attics. some times it does and sometime it don't.

Asbestos is like a snake, don't mess with it, and it won't mess with you!! My advice? VERY carefully back away and put up some of that pretty, never needs paintin' Vinyl siding right over it and forget about it!

P.S.
I had a very close family friend recently pass away from Mesothelioma as a result of working on a clean up crew that hauled Asbestos out of those big ovens at the glass plant that blew up in Okmulgee about 50 years ago. Friends, it was NOT pretty!

Please don't play with that stuff!
JMHO!

My wife and I scraped up abestos tiles in our first house. We bought really good masks and some cheap zip up suit things. We keep it wet so it limited the dust. Saved us $2500 - the quote we got just to scrape it up...
