I liked the movie. I too look forward to parts 2 and 3. I haven't read the book, and I don't really have the patience to read anymore. but I may try it too I read they aren't using all of the same actors in part 2. They are going for "bigger names". You should search YouTube for Ayn Rand interviews. They are interesting.

Great book, but a long-winded and detailed read. The movie is good, but may leave you somewhat lost on backstory. It is surprising how many fiction books from the '50s and early '60s are eerily prescient. Taylor Caldwell wrote The Devil's Advocate in '52. It predicts a iron-fisted socialist government here and is sometimes uncannily accurate.

Objectivism is an interesting philosophy, but goes against the grain of most conventional wisdom.

I am looking forward to the remainder of these installments.

Am I the only one who has never heard of this book or movie?

"Who is John Galt?"

Probably not. I can almost guarantee that it is NOT taught in .gov schools these days.

Ayn Rand is the author. The book is about a society and government that not only steals from the few productive citizens, but then vilifies those same few. One of these citizens, John Galt, plots the 'disappearance' of the producers and they go on a sort of a strike.

Sound familiar?

Well... I just watched the movie, and I am pretty disappointed.

I don't think it was bad, I just think it was vastly oversimplified. Not nearly enough time allotted for character development and to really show the whole story. I realize the book was, what, 1400 pages or something? But still... I just watched over 700-800 pages of it (maybe more?) in just about 90 minutes. It was hard to develop the kind of respect and empathy with Dagny, Hank and Ellis in such a short time. Some movies are conducive to that, this one isn't, sadly.

I'm gonna go back and read the book again.
