Sad deal. Guess they tried to tranquilize it or something too. Wish they could've captured and relocated it.
Just saw a video of a bear in Norman that was shot and killed last night. The bear was in a residential neighborhood in a large tree. The bear was shot with a tranquilizer and fell from the tree but got up and started moving around and was then killed by a member of the Oklahoma Wildlife Dept.....I felt sorry for the bear but he was fairly large and could have killed a human being if provoked.
relocation would have been best but I won't second guess the wildlife dept. for their decision
Fair enough . . . others probably will question it.
Could/should they have used more tranquilizer?
One news station reported that the WL officers used up all the darts they had with them, and mr. bear was still getting up.
I think they did all they could. Can't imagine the uproar if they would have waited to put it down and someone was attacked or a pass thru shot caused collateral damage.
Hmmm... I wonder if tranquilizers lose potency over time.
