Becoming a Gunsmith

So I've seen a few threads on here recently about folks wanting to change jobs or who are needing a job, and I'be been thinking about the future myself. Specifically, as the title alludes to, gun smithing. That is something I think that I might enjoy, but I don't know how one goes about becoming a gunsmith or how much a gunsmith could reasonably expect to make. Any smiths here who would like to tell me all about it?

I checked into it about thirty years ago when my dream was building 1911 race guns.
Think at that time there was a school in tishamingo.

Start at NRA.com They host a gunsmith school at Murray State College in OK. Skip Ashworth, while it is a decent program, the credentials are bogus. Basically buying an $800 FFL
