You have an eror in that statement. It doesnt have any where neer the service life of a 1911. Im not knocking the M9. I like it but the aluminium frame wont let it verse the steal frame..

I went by the published data:
M9 - 35,000 service life
1911 - 20,000 service life

Now I don't know for a fact what pistol will jam first ... I know military actually tested 12 M9s with 168000 rounds with no jams, I can't find any reliable data for 1911 other than original 6000 round test.

I love it when people's experience with a platform involves only what they read on the internet. Not taking away from the Beretta as they can last for longer than anyone cares to shoot it but 20K for the service life of a 1911?

I like the 92fs but would prefer the decocker only model, a safety on d/a handgun just pisses me off. The factory s/a & d/a trigger pull can be cut in half with a $10 hammer spring from David Olhasso. The gun is a natural pointer, close your eyes and draw it and you'll be on target. As with most handguns it's more accurate than we shooters.

The 92FS was the first pistol I ever purchased, based on my experience with it in the military. It's a great pistol for many of the reasons that have all ready been posted here. The only upgrade I've seen that it really needs is a 92D mainspring to reduce the DA pull. I'm a big fan.

That being said...I much, much prefer the 1911.

Except the frame of a 92FS has a 5000 round service life. And the 92FS is infinitely worse than the 1911.

Remember all US Military 1911A1's last build was in 1945. No other new pistols were built for the military after that. I'm willing to bet that there were lots and lots of 1911A1's that went way past that service mark!!
