Really miss Broken Spoke in Lexington. Before the buffett days that is! There used to be a place in Wayne that looked like an old west town, they were pretty good.

Back in the 80s I used to get a great chicken fried steak at The Stallion in Austin,Tx when I lived there a few summers. A few people like Janis Joplin and Stevie Ray Vaughn used to perform there when they were nobodies.

I disagree with those saying Chuck House. I've had their CFS a few times. It's probably the best CFS for the money (CFS + 1,2,3? sides + drink for $6/7), but I don't believe it to be the ultimate classic CFS.

Surprisingly, Texas Roadhouse has a fantastic CFS. It's big, not too thin, not too thick, nice batter, and nice, smooth peppered gravy.

Skillet Restaurant in the truck stop at Reno and MLK has a good CFS, too.
