Biden: New gun controls likely won't end shootings

"Nothing we're going to do is going to fundamentally alter or eliminate the possibility of another mass shooting or guarantee that we will bring gun deaths down to 1,000 a year from what it is now," Biden told reporters Thursday afternoon after he spent over an hour lunching with Democratic senators at the Capitol.

"But there are things that we can do, demonstrably can do, that have virtually zero impact on your Second Amendment right to own a weapon for both self defense and recreation that can save some lives," he said.

...the right of the people to keep and bear arms can be infringed a little bit if it might save one life?

It's all about the appearance of safety. Local school district spent thousands of dollars installing a system where guests scan drivers license as they check in at the office. Only problem, there are dozens of unlocked doors at the schools that are located nowhere near the offices. Also, the scanners are inside the offices that you would have to intentionally enter after coming into the buildings. But, they can now be in the paper and Internet saying they have installed this really cool system that will help protect the kids. Illusion of safety.

And when they scan those licenses, what information are they receiving? Yes, sex offender status is listed on the license, (if they actually register like the're supposed to) but what other information are they getting? What if a person swipes a license that belongs to someone else? Is there any system in place to verify that the person swiping the license is the same person on that license? What if they have someone else with them as they enter? I can think of more, but you get the idea.

BUT HEY..........they spent all that money and now they feel safer. Yep, I agree....Illusion of safety.

It's going to come down to mag limits and maybe universal background checks. Those are the pieces of meat that are going to be thrown to the barking dogs.

I think universal background checks has a better chance at making it than mag limits.
