Black eyed peas

I have to rinse the daylights out of dried black eye peas or they taste "earthy" to me.
Love some in a pot of Hoppin' John (cajun sausage, chicken, onion, garlic, tomato, rice) served with cornbread on New Year's Day.

I agree black eyed peas have a gritty earthy taste. That's why we eat pinkeye purple Hull peas instead. Much better texture and flavor.

We've followed the tradition of black-eyed peas on New Year's Day for some time, however, New Year's Day of 2024, the wife and I both forgot or didn't really pay attention to the date.

2024 is also the year that I had a hemorrhage in my right eye.

There's already a can of black-eyed peas sitting on the counter, ready for tomorrow's lunch.

Well I wished that was true. I eat them at least 4 times a week. Their my favorite, but on the other hand I'm one of those that if I didn't have bad luck I wouldn't have any at all. Hopefully it would work better for some of ya'll.
