Seems I need to clarify a few things here.

Not once in this thread have I made a joke about this murder. I posted a picture of a cat and engaged in two off-topic posts about movie with another poster. However, several other people *did* make jokes about the murder itself, but for some reason you chose to attack me for making an off-topic reply rather than attack one of the several posters who made jokes about the dead girl.

I'd take it at face value and stick with my opinion that DanB, Hump66, BadgeBunny and Perplexed are good people, but hey; I'd sincerely like to see you quote them and give them a full psych profile based on their internet jokes like you've done with me.

Lastly elwood, I don't need anything from you or any other internet stranger, especially your approval, validation, or attention. Your attention is something you're giving me without me ever having asked for it. I do care what some people think of me, but a grown man that calls me childish in a half-censored profanity laced tirade on an internet forum is not one of them.

One of the comments on the news story says she was decapitated. Someone has some inside information? I didn't see that released anywhere. Killing someone is one thing, but it takes a special kind of crazy to cut someone's head off.

I hadn't heard that. Oh man ... No kidding. Apparently Bethany's not the peaceful mecca it once was. Or maybe it never was and I just pay attention more because I live here.

There was that girl killed by her boyfriend and dumped out at Stenchcomb Park (I don't know if I spelled that right) and that guy who killed his wife when she caught him looking at porn (they lived just around the corner from us). Now this ... In a pretty busy area too ... sad, sad, sad ...

Elwood, I'm curious - did you single out Ridge for the rather jarring image he posted in this thread? If not, then I have to ask why, since as he pointed out, several of us did make jokes of questionable taste. I'm curious why RH would deserve special treatment.

As for our responses, it's human nature to want to make light of tragedy and relieve the stress of everyday life. Some people will find it objectionable, saying "too soon" and such, but sooner or later there will be jokes made, songs sung, rhymes created, etc. about events that would otherwise threaten to beat us down with their horrific nature. In this case, now that the victim has a name and a face, I don't think anyone will be making any more jokes any time soon about that terrible situation.

But it does happen, eventually. Just look at the rhyme I quoted at the beginning of this response - it was a common jump rope ditty for years after the grisly murder of Lizzie Borden's parents. Not kosher perhaps, but it's inevitable.

Reading this thread in the morning light, I can only conclude that he had either been drinking or has some type of reading comprehension problem that's making him think I posted something I didn't, or making him confuse me with someone else. I simply did not post a joke about the murder, and the mods can confirm I have not deleted anything I've posted in this thread.

Human nature? No, it's human nature to publicly make judgmental comments about the morality and character of another person based on solely on a passing comment rather than examining oneself. That's human nature at its most basal level.

I just hope the next time anyone feels the need to to do that here, they use PM's so everyone else doesn't have to read this. Of all the threads I intentionally rile people up in, this is not one of them. Had no idea I'd be lit into like this over something I didn't even say.
