Last time I was in the Costco Liquor store they had Blanton's for $60.
Old Yellowknife is going for only $4.99; now some would call it rotgut, but after a few stiff belts, you don't taste the kerosene so much.

I was a big fan of single malts for about 4 or 5 years. Then, a few years ago the prices began to spiral upward. Now they are all about double what they were just a few short years ago. As the prices climbed I shifted my focus down the aisle toward bourbon. Apparently, American whiskey makers really liked what they saw in the single malt industry. The bourbon prices have started going up nearly, but not quite, across the board. For a long time Bulleit was $21 to $22 a bottle. Recently checked and it is now $26 and the store clerk said get used to ever increasing bourbon prices in general. That's only one example. There are several favorites of mine and they have all inched up a few dollars these past several months to year. They go much higher and I'll either go down one or two shelves or go more with Canadians or rum. The few sub $20 a bottle rums and Canadians I've tried have been very good.
I agree with an earlier assessment. They are trying to "Pappy Van Winkle" Bookers. Will they get it to $1500? I don't think so. But I think they've got a good shot at $200 in a few years. Is Bookers good? Indeed it is. But as it stands there are $30 to $35 bourbons that make it dang hard to spend the current $50 to $60 for Bookers. It's just not THAT much better. Then again, is PVW $1465 better than Weller 12yr?

Bourbon is the trend and that is sapping the supply. Prices go up. I can't believe how much Rye has increased in price, too.
Also, IIRC, Pappy doesn't sell commercially for those crazy prices. It's retail price has remained largely unchanged. It's the aftermarket that is playing on the scarcity of it that is fetching the absurd prices. Restaurants are a different matter, though.
The Van Winkle family has come through Oxford several times for a big food symposium we host. The bartender at the 'go-to bar' (which happens to be our local haunt) told us that the family styled Weller to be the bourbon they always know they can get when they travel.
I like the 12 year and i find the myth of Pappy to have outpaced the product (for me personally). There are many other bourbons i enjoy more and could get several bottles of for the price of Pappy these days.
And to think I was pissed when Old Overholdt and Old Grandad went from ~$10 to ~$14.

Not a fan of bookers myself, lately I've gone to Evan Williams single barrel for a new favorite. All the stores I go to don't have Blanton's in stock and can't seem to get any.

Two options for those looking for a cut above..... Jack Daniels Barrel Strength and Jack Daniels Single Barrel Rye. I've never been a fan of Jack, nor even the cask strength stuff..... but both of these I tried recently and they were damn good IMO.
