I was at a college campus earlier, which will remain nameless for now, and noticed a security officer walking around the student union area that made me feel real secure. She was a woman in probably her mid 50's, about 5' 5" tall and maybe 130lbs wet. I know size isn't everything but it would not take much to overpower her. The thing that really got me was how she was armed. She was wearing a thin, maybe 3/4" wide dress belt which had a small flashlight and what looked to be a FNH pistol on it. The pistol was in an uncle mikes nylon holster with the velcro thunb strap, and was clipped on the outside of her hip on her dress belt. Every time she took a step the damn thing flopped around like it was going to fall off. I am no expert in security but I know that that gun could be taken in 2 seconds by my 8 year old. Good thing they care so much about security that I have to leave my gun in the car. I will be contacting campus security this week. Have all the bills in the state to allow carry on colleges been shot down? I think its time to bring them back up. Also, what is the penalty for carrying on a college campus, the same as a K-12 school? Just thought I would share.

Is it not still the law that a person can obtain a letter from the president of a university which will allow him/her to carry on campus? Said letter has to be carried on your person at all times.

Having said that, good luck getting Boren or Henry to write you that letter... Hargus very well might, however.

Campus cops need a speical place in heaven for puting up with sott nose college kids who think they are God's gift to the world .

It's sort of a toss-up for me whether undergraduates or campus security are more irritating.

I have some pretty good campus security stories, including the time when 3 campos (and a TPD officer) rolled up on our facility because a student that our advisor had hired to do some painting wasn't on the "authorized list," and demanded authorization from our advisor. Otherwise they were going to escort him from the premises. I happily informed them that our advisor's wife had just gone into labor not 20 minutes beforehand, and so he probably wouldn't be answering his phone, but we could produce an email chain verifying that the guy was authorized to be there and that he wasn't illegally painting our bathroom. That wasn't good enough, and so long story short we had to get the dean of our college involved and he told them to bugger off.

This happened again when we left our high school intern (a 16-year-old kid who probably weighed 120lbs dripping wet) to use the oscilloscope unattended. Campus security apparently thought he was a gang member who had broken in to hide drugs in the o-scope, because when I arrived on scene the officer had the kid cornered and had his hand on his gun. Fortunately at this point I was able to put people on the "authorized list" so I was able to assure the campo that this 120lb Chinese kid wasn't a threat to anyone.

I've had plenty of good interactions with campus security too, to be fair. However they're trying to become an actual police department and as long as stuff like this keeps happening I can't condone that.

It's probably a little building over by the wellness center

 I'm thinking it would need to be a little closer to the Psychology Department ... :D Because I'd need some serious counseling to keep from leaving dead bodies everywhere (says the mom and stepmom of 5 20-somethings ... :grumble:) :lookaroun

My wife works at TU (in the college of ENS Dean's office coincidently). That place has more campus cops crawling over it than any institution I have ever seen. Its unreal.

The crime blotter for TU is pretty awesome too. Lots of impounded cars 'round those parts. And people try to claim it's somehow a particularly bad neighborhood.

One of the things I miss about being in a fraternity is knowing who did everything in Campus Crime Watch.

And people try to claim it's somehow a particularly bad neighborhood.

The only people who think that the area is dangerous are South Tulsans who think that everything north of 15th street is the Bronx.
