Girlfriends 2001 ford escape has devolped and idle issue. Everything I have read points to a single or a combination of problems. I have tried few different things. New coils, plugs fuel filter, idle air control valve. Made it a bit better but its getting worse in colder weather. So its down to swaping and testing sensors that i feel are kinda pricey ($400 is had to buy it all) to be shooting in the dark on a car with 250K on it.

So anyone know of a good honest (LOL) salvage i could get few of these parts from to do some testing on this thing. I can pull em if needed. Will be in the city tomorrow. Need stuff like MAF, IAC, EGR maybe, O2 sensors if they have them ect. Would basicaly like to get a full set of sensors or two if price is right.

I am not too keen on the salvage yards for these vehicles, or even good ones that carry more Ford products. The one that comes to mind is Wilson's but I am not sure if they allow you to go back there and take what you need.

If you want to post some more info on whats going on, you get some tips on what might be going on with it. Is this a V6 or 4 cyl? Do you have a check eng light? If so what code(s).

Its the V6/Auto/4wd throwing rich or lean codes cant remember right off hand. Runs rough, wont idle smooth esp. in the cold. It would not stay running one morning this week and she had to take her daughter to school in my truck. Lots of people having this problem and it seems there are many different fixes and combinations. Also going to look for few vacume leaks that i have read can be a problem.

Or would it be worth taking in to have worked on. I have never been one to have some one else work on my stuff but sometimes stuff like this baffles me and i cant afford to just be a parts changer.

i work on cars for a living and have had many runins with these escapes. They are crap tastic.

They opened a new yard in okc called LKQ self service close to i-40 abd mcarthur. i think i saw a mazda tribute there its basically the same thing.

i may be able to give you a push in the right direction if you could post the check engine codes.

With the complaint you mentioned, I would assume the codes are for a lean condition, possibly P0171,P0174?? What I would look at first is the PCV vac line, its right under the intake/throttle body area. This line runs under the upper intake and into the lifter valley and they are notorius for rotting, splitting and causing a vacuum leak.

Yes it was loose fitting (had swelled) when i pulled the upper intake to swap coils so i put a clamp on that. there were two othere vacume lines there if i recall they fit ok when i checked them but thats not to say they dont now.

99.9% positive that it was lean codes. Scan tool is loaned to my dad right now (3 hours away) so i can get them pulled at orielys tomorrow after they open. Finishing working nights so gotta stay up all day today to swap my sleep cycle around to normal.

No problem buyin new pars as long as i know thats what it is....I will call them later in the AM and see.

You might be able to get cheap sensors for 2001 escape at pull a part in okc. You will have to walk around and look carefully, I don't recall seeing many Escapes down there. But a 2001 car is a car old enough that pull a part may have one down there. I suggest is cleaning your MAF. Listen real careful for a vacuum leak. Sometimes I have found leaks in my intake by spraying a little starter fluid over a specific area, if the car revs up, I knew I found the source of the problem. Good luck.
