Always here unless I am gone (OKC Metro)
I USED to own an 82 C3500. I would be wary of the engine. I had 3 head gasket failures in 82000 miles. Finally developed a lower end knock. Some of the fuel system parts are hard to come by since there is a lack of buildable cores. Especially with the ULSD fuel. IMHO You are good to go if you plan on replacing the motor at some point in time. Also replace the torque converter to work with the gas motor. (Been there done that). Also plan on the truck losing some value with such a swap. You can build a decent 350 fairly cheap. And dont forget about the hybrid motors such as a 377. 400 block with a 350 crank.

You could easily swap a mechanical 6.5 turbo diesel in place of the 6.2 and make a ton more power stock but for a few hundred bucks you have a hell of an engine.

The only preowned diesel I would even consider owning would be 7.3l powerstroke. Have been around the the 6.2l and the 6.5. Both were company trucks and both had problems. The 6.2l was gutless and was traded in for the 6.5l because of constant breakdowns and lack of power. The 6.5l definately had more power, still had issues as well. You may be able to get the suburban for next to nothing, but weigh your cost of getting back on the road, most likely diesel repair as well. All this said, a guy I know in Enid has a green 4x4 suburban with a 6.2l with over 350,000 miles and has had very few problems................many trannies though.

Seriously everyone who says these things are junk can keep passing them on I have had plenty of the detroit diesels that walked all over the 7.3idi. It's great because I can almost always pick one up for next to nothing because people think they are crap. If possible PM me with the details of where this thing is I want to buy it.
