rings, it will be my first visit to the track. i'm pretty pumped about it. nascar sanctioned track with asphalt pits with air and water to each stall. dirt racers around the country should love that track.

Late 80's thru the mid 90's me and the wife were at a sprint car race almost every weekend. Tulsa,OKC,devils bowl, royce city,etc... We also were at Knoxville for 6 or 7 years straight every summer in August. Those were great times !!

my love for racing goes back a long way. when we were kids, our neighbor was jerry soderburg. dad worked nights so my mom went with his wife linda to the races. i was sitting in his car in the late 60's-early 70's. jerry and linda divorced and jerry moved to wichita to race more. the 74 hutch nationals changed racing safety rules forever. the huge wreck and following fire is racing history. jerry still operates a successful engine building shop in spite of the loss of most of his fingers.

jerry's car was in the middle of the blaze. it was extremely hot that night and he chose to not wear his gloves.warning, this is a tense video.

That's Aaron Madden lying down on the track, basically on fire. The Hutch fire injured Madden, Jerry Soderberg, and Jack Petty. Madden and Petty returned to racing but Soderberg never did. It's interesting that Buck Cadwell was driving Supers at the time and was in that crash though was not involved in the fire.

I think the last time I heard hillenbergs name was the last time the World of outlaws was at tulsa speedway. And thats been many many years.

My late Dad and I used to go to all W.O.L., midgets, sprint races back when OKC had a dirt track. I still miss dirt track racing in OKC. Damn politicians.

I wished I would have recorded the Chili Bowl, but don't know if Cox carried it.

cznick, with you being south of moore you shouls slip down to southern oklahoma speedway in ardmore. high banked very fast track and they put on a good show. the usmts mods will be there soon and those guys flat get it on. they also run a class in ardmore that i can't remember the name of,something like grand national or the sorts. anyway, they are designed to be very competative. same right rear tire, engine specs, etc. those guys run in a pack of 12 that you couldn't squeeze a credit card between for 20 laps. most of them carry the left front the entire time around the track. very exciting racing
