From what I can find so far it's 1944. Still trying to figure out the barrel markings. Have not had time to strip it down yet.Looks like a ‘42 colt
I believe what is inside the red square is what is left of a Ordnance "crossed cannon" inspection cartouche. Opinions? Milsurp or 1911 experts thoughts? What little research I’ve done has it sometime in ‘44.
There are a couple more very faint/partial markings I can’t identify on the frame right side, below slide and behind grip. (see pic). One of them is definitely a stamp, the other I’m not so sure.View attachment 313093
Also just got an email from CMP. The 1911s are still available. Been trying to decide if I can talk the wife into getting one???? Probably not as we are getting ready to do a major remodel on the house
I believe the red circle is the crossed cannons. You can see it on mine but not quite as good as yoursI believe what is inside the red square is what is left of a Ordnance "crossed cannon" inspection cartouche. Opinions? Milsurp or 1911 experts thoughts?
I still don't know what that is inside the blue circle. Looks to be a partial 3 inside a square, but I can't really tell, and I'm not finding any info on it anywhere. Anyone have any opinions?

Am I seeing things that aren’t there?

I noticed that on yours. Same location as I've found it on others I've seen online. Some very crisp, some very faint, but none as faint as mine.I believe the red circle is the crossed cannons. You can see it on mine but not quite as good as yours
