Congrats! I may be the odd ball but I don’t mind refinished pistols. It’s seen enough use it has to be refinished and now it’s better protected against rust and damage. Just my $0.02.

They were also well used and saw a lot of field time. We’ll probably never know where, but they carry a lot of history with them. Same as an 1880.s model six shooter.

These are actually bargain prices for these guns. I'd say they're generally right around 50% of current market value. Of course, that'll vary somewhat depending on the gun and condition but overall I'd say that's a pretty good estimate.

The prices have gone up by about $200 for each grade since the first two sales cycles. Still a bargain for a USGI issue 1911.

Matching slide/frame. That adds to the value for sure. But almost $4K selling price? That's just crazy.

Makes the CMP prices look downright reasonable. Which they are...
The frame is the only item on a 1911 with a S/N these old 1911s were rebuilt many times over the years, so there is no way to know if the slide is the original.

Wife and I each got one in the first round. Matching colt and a matching Remington. Both WW 2 dated. Both rebuilt, tighter than Maggie’s drawers. Nothing like the two that I were issued in the early 70’s!

Both have rebuild dates of 81, before they went into storage. Got the best grade, and happy as a hog in slop. They were so tight there was no shake to them and they actually needed a break in before they would function reliably. I might have a case (or 25 cases) of GI match from when it was the DCM…

You naysayers go ahead and whine. Maybe if enough people listen to you, you won’t order one and possibly we just might get to order one or two more instead of the lifetime limit of one.

Regards,

That's not entirely accurate. Colt started serializing the slides in the 30s some time. They stamped the serial number under the firing pin retainer plate for some time...into the 40s at least.

ETA: Found what I was looking for:

http://www.coolgunsite.com/pistols/...M1911s have only one,as well as the receiver.
