I have a Colt Light Weight Commander XSE and a Kimber Pro Carry II. Both in 45. I do not need both. The Colt is a 4.25" with bushing, the Kimber is 4" bushingless. I shoot both the same, I cant really tell a difference in shooting them. Both are more accurate than I will ever need, both are dead nuts reliable, and they both are nice looking in their own way.

So, which is a better 1911 and why?

If you pick "other", please specify what other one you are talking about.

I've shot them against each other, I,ve even shot with one in each hand at the same time. There is no mechanical difference in feel. The targets look the same when finished.

I no longer buy arms made in anti 2a states. That makes Colt a no go for me.
No sense punishing a manufacturer for the idiocy of the socialist policies of the city or state in which said company resides.
I will continue to support Colt for the foreseeable future.
Oh, andas surjimmy stated, your Colt will continue to rise in value so keep it and jettison the Kimber.

The best overt advise would be to look at the Top 1911 smiths build upon. Ok, now several manuf. their own frames, but....... You'll see Colt, Springfield and Caspian overall.

I'd keep the Colt as its value, as stated above, does typically remain high and could go higher dependent upon Colts existence and that of the next Freak Out

Overall - The 'better' Sub $1700 1911's would be a Les Baer, Springfield TRP, Dan Wesson, Ed Brown, STI. New or Used.

Going above $1700 -- Les Baer, DL Sports, Pistol Dynamics, Rogers, Ned C., Ed Brown, Nighthawk?, Wilson Combat?, Heirloom, Matt Gish if you can find him,

Sub $1000 -- Springer Loaded, SIG, Colt, Rock Island for the trunk blaster duty,

I have had quite a few 1911's over the years. Most brands. I hear a lot of smack talk about Kimber, but really haven't had that faulty experience with them as of yet (knocking on simulated wood). I have had a few Colt 1911's with issues though and Springers as well.

I think you should keep what you like and shoot the best with.
