I experienced something very similar this past year but with a spike Buck. Something got me coughing all of a sudden and I couldn’t stop, but the young Buck would eat at the feeder on and off while looking at me.
I coughed for several minutes and the deer never left until my son and I started making some movement/hitting stand etc grabbing our gear to leave.
I’m sure if it was a shooter deer he would have been long gone when coughing.
