Was talking to some people today and had a question. Didn't know where else to ask.

Do most county jails have outlets (inmate accessible or not) in the cells? Supposedly most prisons do so that inmates can use radios, etc. but does that privilege extend into the county facilities?

I do not know. I only got as far as "intake" the time I went on a ride-along as GC and we wound up down at Oklahoma County. THAT was enough sight-seeing for me. I hope I NEVER have to see the outside of that building again, much less the INSIDE. :lookaroun

Don't know about county jails. I worked at a state prison in Texas many moons ago. Every cell, even the ones in ad seg/solitary confinement had a duplex receptacle. Even before they outlawed smoking, but certainly after - those fools would continually burn them up lighting smokes. I kept a running log, if I had to replace more than one per cell per month - I just turned off the power to that outlet and told them I was working on it. I would leave them without power for a couple of weeks. Never did teach them a lesson!

I have worked with an agency who had a county jail (originally built in 1928) and it had no outlets available for inmate use outside of the kitchen. Also, I worked with a municipal agency whose jail (originally built in 1981) had no outlets that were accessible to the inmates.

No, you don't get any outlets in cells. It's JAIL. You don't even get a pillow. There is a catch out/ snitch button (intercom)

I dunno, Dog, my man ... Some folks seem to think the accomodations are okay. The fella GC took in the day I was with him has spent more than half his entire life in jail. He didn't seem to think it was all that bad. In fact, he seemed kinda relieved when GC said "Man, I hate to do this but you've got warrants outstanding and you've been driving drunk so we're gonna have to go downtown." Fella said, "Ahhhh, it's cool. I figured as much when you stopped to visit me." :lookaroun

His biggest worry was whether he was gonna be in a cell on the side of the prison where he could see the downtown fireworks (it was July 4th). Well, that and he wanted a couple of bologna sandwiches. Seems he'd been too busy drinking to bother eating anything for a couple of days.

 Some people live a lifestyle I simply do not understand.
