Custom 280 Ackley Improved

I just finished this 280 Ackley Improved, and I thought I'd share a couple of pictures...

Now, how did that little guy get in there....

Very nice looking rifle David! What's the specs? Weight, barrel length, contour, etc. I can see its a rem700, what barrel brand? Twist rate?

Is this the old ackley or the nosler ackley?

Twoguns? - of course I left the bunny! My little beagle Abby, has been running this same rabbit for a month now. This bunny's got more moves than Michael Jordan....

The barrel is a Pac-Nor stainless match, with a 1-9" twist rate. This is a Sendero contour with a muzzle diameter of .850". Barrel length is 26" plus the addition of my muzzle brake, makes the overall length 27 1/2"...

The action has been blue-printed...

The factory trigger has been replaced with a Rifle Basix trigger and adjusted to 30 oz...

Heavy duty firing pin spring / lightweight firing pin / oversize tapered recoil lug...

The action and straight shank section of barrel have been glass bedded...

As it sits, loaded and with bi-pod, it weights exactly 13 lbs...

I chambered this gun for the Nosler Ackley. The customer did not want to fireform loads, so he elected this chambering. I set it up for "0" headspace...

Chamber throat was cut specifically for Sierra's 140 gr. B.T.-H.P. Game King bullets....

Very Nice Rifle!. I too have a custom 280 ack. Its a great caliber.

Both cartridges have a 40 degree shoulder angle, but the Nosler version has the shoulder pushed back a minimum of .060, as compared to a true 280 Ackley Improved...

I have seen some Nosler cases used in a true Ackley Chambering, have complete head separation on the second firing of a case because of excessive headspace. This is why I always ask the customer to be very specific on the chambering, so as to avoid any issues like this....



Twoguns? - my apology for missing your question concerning the bi-pod. This is a "Sinclair 3rd Generation F-Class Bipod"....
