Dang deer in the roads.... <sigh>

I've hit 8 deer that I can think of right off hand. Some I was able to slow down and avoid much damage, some not. 4 of the deer I hit were luckily in a truck with a ranch hand bumper. Once, while running late for work, one came in front of me from nowhere. I never had time to hit my brakes, or even take my foot off the pedal and slammed her at 87 mph. With the ranch hand bumper, there was zero damage to the truck other than needing a wash because of the deer hair and deer crap all over the front/size of the truck.

I can all in all I can't complain. Out of 8 deer, only 3 sent the vehicle to the body shop. Needless to say, I love my ranch hand bumper.

...it'll probably run a couple of grand and I'll be out of a truck for several weeks, since the local body shop I will use is always behind. I have good insurance coverage and a great relationship with my agent (who is also a hunter and shooter), so I have no doubt I'll be taken good care of.

If you have comprehensive or collision, you should only be out the deductible (not counting incidental expenses, like paying for alternate transportation).

And you'd be surprised at the damage a raccoon can do when you hit it at 75mph on the turnpike--$2500 in damages, and the car was still drivable. In fact, I drove it for the next three months while I got my alternative transportation lined up (read "repaired").
