Deer harvest numbers….

Just looked on the app and the deer harvest numbers are about 23K less than last year as of today.

Any reason why? Warm weather keeping deer movement nocturnal? All deer shot last year?

I would say the weather played a big part in the lower number; aside from the hot start to October, there have been a couple of weekends with rain that I am sure have reduced the number of hunters in the field.

I've seen more dead deer along the roads in the last few weeks than I can ever remember.
I don't think the population is down.

Drought over a huge area of the state until a couple weeks ago, deer concentrated in different areas than usual possibly.

Okie4570 made a great point yesterday. At the time of the OP post, rifle season hadn't started yet. Last year number included opening weekend harvests.

As of last night 64k this year, 62k last year on the Mondays after opening gun weekends.
