I'll start with my daughter's birthday hunt now I know I can post pics directly. Last Wed. Was my daughter's 10th birthday, so we let her play hooky and go deer hunting. She got a doe early morning. Retrieving it was when we discovered the hog trapper hunting our place.
That’s a great birthday for that young lady, congrats!

Tumbleweed, did the guy who wasn’t suppose to shoot a deer leave the doe where he shot her, or did you catch him on camera hunting?
No. He had shot it two days prior in opening day. I noticed the rear legs laying in the bed of his truck when I went to talk to him about what and why he was hunting there. He said he had shot the doe on Monday and claimed to have permission to hunt. I called the land owner right then and let him handle it. I know the land owner would never give anyone else permission to hunt there other than the hogs this guy was supposed to be trapping. I don't think he removed a single hog from the place, and am convinced he talked his way on there with full intentions of deer hunting permission or not.

I didn't see a thing last night. Was on a ridge that had good deer movement per the camera when the front hit. Moved to a transition stand in a bottom to finish the evening. Buddy was in a tree line and had a 4 and 6 point come through. 6 point found some does and started running them all over while grunting every breath. Dumb teenagers.

You changed stands mid-hunt?!? Why?

I’m only going to tell you what’s worked for me, and I’m sure others may offer different advice.

Check cameras for movement, check the weather, figure out which stand best fits the forecasted wind, and sit there...PERIOD! Deer hunting isn’t rocket science, and I really believe you’re overthinking it.

Most or maybe all the dramatics you see on the outdoor channel is staged for TV. DON’T BUY INTO IT!!!
