Quick question, my oldest son (16) shot a buck during the youth gun weekend in October. Can he still shoot another buck now during the regular rifle season?

The answer is yes. The regs are very specific that the buck he shot during “youth season” only counts toward his “season total” and not against his buck total. He absolutely can shoot another buck during rifle season.

Unless he has a really good buck targeted, why not just encourage him to shoot a doe?:anyone:

Well my wife tagged out Thanksgiving morning with a 10 pt. He didn't like the decoy and decided to turn back to check him out, but that turned into his fate. The ol' Remington Model 7 in 6mm rang his bell with a 40 yd shot and he barely made it 20 yds.

I went out this morning and shot a broken up 8 pt. He came in and stopped at about 150 yds and the FNH .308 Win dropped him in his tracks.

My hope was that he would come in around 25yds so I could use the S&W 629 but he didn't and I had to go to plan b. He kept hiding and then my brother spotted him on the side of a hill with a beautiful sun setting behind him around 5:20pm. He was 185yds and the 308 (even makes me look like a good shot) had no trouble. That is if I owned a firearm. :)

Well, another rifle season behind us. We had a good season, even though my youngest missed a couple of real nice bucks. She said she is going to practice more for next year, so lesson learned.

We had also been talking a lot about herd management and the importance of taking out the old and barren doe. This was one of their doe this year. She told me that she came out to feed alone, and was alone for 30 mins before she shot her. She also noted how fat she was and the fact that she was gray and “had a huge head.” I think she judged this one very well and made a good call on taking this one out.

Last day of gun season. Went out with not many expectations of seeing much as the last three days have been dry. No does whatsoever.
About 4:00 6 does were walking across my wheat field toward the neighbors. When they got downwind of me they locked up. So I figured my holdover with the rangefinder and took the shot. Had the scope cranked to 24 power and lost the sight picture after the shot, so grabbed the binocs and counted 5 instead of the original 6. Looking around, saw a patch of white and a leg kick one time. The other does just stood around looking at the one down and finally wandered off.
Taking a pic through the rangefinder confirmed 428 yards. 100 grain SPBT from the .243 WSSM in the AR platform.
