Well, whatever it was, try very hard not to do it again! Best wishes, and a few odd prayers for you.

They did tell you you're supposed to keep the blood inside your circulatory system, right?
Ok, in a nutshell, stoma irritation while on blood thinners because i have had DVT in both legs before. It bled due to some irritation from something and instead of clotting and stopping, it filled my ostomy bag in a few minutes.
You can google stoma

That is for healthy people already checked for ability to give that amount without it causing problems. Add in health problems such as poor circulation or respiration or atherosclerosis, blood sugar problems etc etc, and losing a pint is a whole nuther animal.

Lots of variables as always, what I stated is in general. 30%-40% loss is the general standard for no return. I've seen folks who've lost legs instantly and then bled for another hour before being freed(IV fluids started after thirty minutes) from the apparatus and both survived. Some healthy folks can't donate a pint without feeling bad afterwards, but they are in zero peril of dying. The body is pretty resilient.

I know about Stoma. Not something you have a lot of control over. Except trying to cut back on the blood thinners. Which can be difficult, as almost all the non-narcotic pain meds are also blood thinners. My doc cold-turkeyed me off the 150mg a day of diclofenac sodium I've been taking for years. And I don't have a stoma. Just bloody knuckles much of the time from playing mechanic. So more odd prayers for you!

.....and I bet a little embarassing too huh?
Generally, when somebody wants to tell details of a health problem, they do so without prompting, and when they don't come forth with details, maybe they don't want to discuss in detail their health issues on a public forum with curious folk who really don't care and who watch train wreck videos for entertainment.

Exactly.
I always got tired of going to work with a new injury and 300 people ask me what happened. Like the night I was wrestling with my 135 lb Rott and he raised his head fast and hit my nose. Blacked both my eyes and next day was Monday at the office.
