Duffel Cut: Repair or not Repair?

I haven’t watched the video yet and he may answer the question in it, but I’m not familiar with the duffel cut. What was the purpose of it?

To fit the gun in a duffel bag, so you could bing it back on the transport ship.

Keep it as is but it is your rifle. I say keep it because it probably is not super rare and the story of provenance is better than its "original historical" value.

I know nothing about it, but I'd keep the duffel cut. I'd rather have the duffel cut story than the repair.

Depends on what you are going to do with the rifle. Wall hanger to display and talk about, leave it. Occasional shooter, repair. Hunting rifle, replace the stock if possible or repair.

I’d repair it. Unless, you had some evidence of who brought it over and the story behind it. I’d also think they took care to make the cut in an area that could be repaired easily because it was intended to be repaired.

Unfortunately don't have any papers, but I only paid $310 so it's no big deal. I cant imagine someone would intentionally duffel cut other than for its actual purpose. I'll just buy another rifle to shoot and have this one to show. It has a brand spankin new bore on it though that I would love to use someday. If I found a bargain on a replacement stock I could just flip flop them, but M41 stocks are rare
