The point is that the supporters of Planned Parenthood make it sound like they do actual cancer screenings when all they really do is refer women to someplace they can get it done for free. A web site, toll free number, etc can do the same thing at a lot less cost to the taxpayer.

Its really going to be a pointless argument soon. Obamacare will help ensure women who are without insurance get their preventative healthcare screenings done.

There's a big stink going on in North Carolina right now about women who were sterilized becaused they were "mentally unfit" or otherwise couldn't care for their offspring. If the taxpayers are to be burdened with raising the offspring, I vote we should limit it, if that means sterilization, so be it.

Um no there are parts of breast cancer screenings that aren't mammograms that they do in-house. I don't really know any specifics because I am neither a medical professional nor a woman.

Also they do cervical cancer screenings, UTI testing & treatment, and vaginal infection testing & treatment in-house. (I got this specific information by googling "tulsa planned parenthood" and reading for 10 seconds so you have no excuse for not knowing it) Not to mention the general lady-parts checkups they do in house; I know several women who relied on PP for lady doctor services in college.

This is all just women's health services of course. It's not like the contraception, STI testing & treatment, and education programs aren't also super valuable.

E: Basically what I'm getting at is that the "MAMMOGRAMS AREN'T DONE IN HOUSE, THEY COULD JUST USE A WEBSITE!" argument is Yet Another Red Herring that is either ignorant or disingenuous. Planned Parenthood's opponents attack it by trying to minimize the value of the 98% of the stuff that Planned Parenthood does that isn't abortion (99% in the case of Heartland Planned Parenthood, which covers Oklahoma), except there's not really a way to attack "helping poor people be healthier" in an honest way. (I haven't actually looked at those numbers in a while and I'm citing them offhand - it might be 97% nationally and 98% for Heartland, but I'm confident that I'm within a percentage point)

I have been told by women that have been patients and who have worked there, that outside of the abortion stuff there is nothing available from PP that can not be gotten easier and for free somewhere else and that most of their "screenings" amounted to asking the patient some questions. Personally I do not care if they do abortions, I do care that they try to cover getting taxpayer money by saying they do a lot of other healthcare. I also care that they try to push women into having an abortion.

Like I said, I know several people for whom Planned Parenthood was their only option.

Wonder if they had trouble with their finances, too.

(Obscure reference to another thread, not a ding on you.)
