Does anyone have any experience trying to expunge a criminal record? I would like to do it myself to save some money, but it looks complicated. I would be denied a CCL because of a guilty charge of poss. of marijuana from 10yrs 1m ago. Being young and bumb has caught up with me this time. Anyone know the cost involved in going thru a lawyer or doing it yourself

Even if you get it expunged it will still show up on your record.

You must wait 12 years from the time you were charged, before you can start the process and it's around 2000 if you hire an attorney.

if its over 10 years it will come off your record. Won't show up on oscn or anywhere elese. I believe LEO could search it out, but for all purposes to include the Conceal carry permit, it is gone. I can attest to it for 100 % accuracy. The attorney is worth it, I have no experiance with doing it myself. If item is less than 10 then it leaves the arrest on the record but disposition could change.

Do you qualify for a Section 18 expungement? If not, you might just save your money...the other expungment (991C) doesn't erase the arrest record. From what I can see, even with a Section 18 expungement, law enforcement still has access to an expunged record...so would OSBI see it during a SDA permit investigation? I don't know.
